| Safety System: | |
For protecting your data and shops Sky Secure uses a 128 bit SSL ( Secure Socket Layer ) encryption. The SSL protocol is initiated over the user's browser by adding an ‘s' character to the well-known ‘http': https://www.sky-secure.com. The browser requests a certificate and a public key from the server it tries to connect to. This key is then sent back to the browser together with a checksum and will be checked by the browser to confirm the authenticity. The keys have to be signed by one of the few delegated and highly trusted companies. |
|
| After checking the authenticity of the key the browser will then check whether it is really connected to the server that is stated in the URL. If this is the case, the browser will notify the user: In Microsoft Internet Explorer shackle of a yellow lock will close, Netscape Navigator will display an intact key. In most browsers you can find this sign of a successful encrypted connection in the lower right corner. After the whole procedure that mostly only takes a few seconds the two computers will only communicate via an encrypted connection. Since the keys used are asymmetric the safety of the connection is guaranteed. |

| SSL - Secure Socket Layer: | |
| S ecure S ocket L ayer (SSL) was invented by Netscape Communications Corp. and works independent of the application on a socket layer, which means between the protocols of the application layer ( i.e. HTTP, FTP, etc. ) and the transportation layer ( TCP ). SSL enables Server and optionally even a Client authentication using X.509 certificates. |
|
| SSL supports different cryptographic methods with variable key lengths, including RC4 with a strength of 40 or 128 bit ( developed by RSA Data Security ), the Data Encryption Standard ( DES, 56 bit ) and triple-DES where the data are three times encrypted using DES. You can easily identify an SSL encryption by having a look at the first part of the URL since http:// changes to https:// . SSL is explained in detail on the website of Netscape Click here to test the SSL encrypted area of Sky-Secure.com. Pay attention to the safety lock symbol appearing in your browser's status bar ( in most browsers in the lower right corner ). |
